Report on: New IMAX theater in Country Club Hills, IL

2011, 05-20:

Report on:  New IMAX theater in Country Club Hills, IL

On Wednesday, May 18th, BUZZBO in Chicago put a note on their Facebook page announcing the Grand Opening of a new IMAX theater in the Chicago area:

... “Join us on Friday, May 20 for the Grand Opening of the new IMAX screen at AMC Loews Country Club Hills 16!”...

...  As you can see from the proclamation, WGCI Radio was scheduled to do a LIVE Broadcast from the Theatre (at 4201 W. 167th St.)...  One person asked on Facebook whether they were offering free TICKETS to the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN [4] film, but that was NOT something that was being given out...

...  With a friend (ED B.), I went to the AMC to take photos of the event & SEE the just-opened film (a standee for which can be seen in the pix below)...

...  They have 16 theatres in the complex there (built around 5 or so years ago), with the capability of holding crowds from like 186 to 379 or so people...  Their Theatre 15 has been newly-renovated to show IMAX films, & holds up to 676 people with its stadium seating...  A Customer Service rep said the screen there is 60’ x 30’ in dimensions...

...  (Later, I’ll be REVIEWING the film itself...)

...  The AMC had other large “standee” ads in their various lobby areas, including for CARS 2(opening June 24)...

...  & TRANSFORMERS (3): DARK OF THE MOON(in which ED B. acted as an “extra”;  opening July 1st)...

...  Around 5 PM (while the 4 pm “PIRATES” movie was still being screened), WGCI Radio seemingly  started its BROADCASTING from the theater building...

...  By the time the 4 pm screening let-out around 6:30 PM, reps from WGCI were shooting PHOTOS   around the Theatre and holding forth at their table “booth” set-up near the front door of the theatre complex (as shown below)...

...  They gave away various “souvenir” items such as radio station stickers & pens...  They also allowed people to put their hand in a “Treasure Chest”, &, if you pulled out a plastic coin with a number on it, you got to choose a gift such as a baseball-style cap...

...  At the desk, they also had a contest where you could win a prize (such as a “Pirates” BANDANA) by answering a TRIVIA question.  For example, they asked, what’s the one 5-letter word in the English language that is ALWAYS pronounced WRONG.  One person eventually guessed “reign”, but another one guessed the correct answer: “wrong”!...

...  All in all, they utilized friendly personnel & did a GOOD little promotion with the public...

...  As to the new IMAX theatre there:  the seats are comfortable, the screen images are crystal clear, & the sound is wonderful!...  The cost for such movies in 3-D is around $ 15 - $ 16 per person (depending on your age, the day & time, etc.)...
